Portia Lee James DeGeneres is an actor from Australia and model who is known as Portia de Rossi. When she was 15 years old, she changed her legal name and adopted her Italian nickname "de Rossi" that was fashionable. The name she chose was "Portia" in Shakespeare's production of The Merchant of Venice. Portia believes it's the most daring decision she's made. The actress said her personal struggle with her sexuality was the reason that prompted her to take the leap. Portia began her career in the film industry with a romantic comedy drama called 'Sirens' in which she starred alongside Hugh Grant. Portia has appeared in a variety of American television films, such as "Too Something," "Nick Freno's Licensed Teacher and Arrested Development as well as Better Off Ted.
